If you grew up in the early 2000s and listened to music, there's a good chance you've heard of Saddle Creek Records and the scene that was brewing in Omaha, Nebraska. A huge part of that story happened at this building. It was called Sokol Auditorium back then, built in 1926 for Omaha's Czech community, and its basement, Sokol Underground, was where I saw some of the most legendary shows in the most intimate settings you could ask for.
So when they asked if Missy and I wanted to help with the rebrand, that was a quick yes. The new name, The Admiral, pays tribute to a classic Omaha movie theater from the 1950s. We used that as our starting point and blended it with the 1920s art nouveau character of the building itself. Getting to put a new identity on a place that shaped so much of our own story was about as personal as a project gets.
